Book A Cheap Break To Oktoberfest With A Budget Festival Tour

If you think your wallet won't stretch to visiting Oktoberfest this year, you could be surprised by how much cash you save by booking a budget festival tour to the huge event.

Dating back to October 1810, Munich's Oktoberfest has become a world-famous event that attracts millions of people from all over the world to partake in one of Germany's most famous exports - beer.

The festival originated from the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony, when citizens of the city took to the streets to celebrate the royal wedding.

Now, tourists mingle with locals and get into the party spirit as the region's breweries bring their wares to the event, with more than six million litres of beer estimated to be swilled during the festival.

If you'd love the chance to sample some of the locally-made beer, brewed using traditional methods, you could find the trip is cheaper than you think if you book a budget break. You can save money by choosing a coach trip that combines stays at hostels throughout the city.

Or, if you're travelling with friends, you could find booking a bed in a dormitory means you have plenty of beer money left over.

Once you've got settled into your accommodation and found your way around the city to where the festivities are taking place, you'll find plenty to enjoy. The local breweries put up their famous beer tents and pack them with kegs. And if you're feeling peckish, you might like to sample the traditional meal of ox, which is served at the event.

After you've filled up on food and drink, make your way over to the mighty Bavaria statue on the border of the Theresienwiese. At the foot of the monument Big Fat Finance, which symbolises the region's power and strength, you'll find a vast fairground full of rides for you to try.

Have a go on the carousels for a gentle but fun experience, or try out the rollercoasters if you enjoy a thrill.

The festival runs for between 16 and 18 days, so get the most from your visit to the region in between the celebrations by seeing some of the area. Call in at some of the most famous attractions, such as the neo-gothic town hall, City Museum of Munich, the National Bavarian Museum and Nymphenburg Palace before making the journey home.
